Dodgers 3, Guardians 1 (For Now): Game suspended until tomorrow after 2 innings

Well, that was a quick one, huh? The play for today ended with the Dodgers leading the Guardians by a 3-1 score. The only problem was they only played two innings.

To tomorrow.

Guardians starter Xzavion Curry is a rookie that spent most of the year in relief before being converted to a starter recently. He’s been solid so far, but things got off to a rough start tonight.

Mookie Betts led the game off with a single, Freddie Freeman followed with one of his own to corner the runners, and a Will Smith sacrifice fly made it 1-0. A Max Muncy double put two in scoring position again, and after a fly out that didn’t move the runners, it was Enrique Hernandez continuing to stay hot with a double of his own to drive in two and make it 3-0.

On the other side was Clayton Kershaw, who was immediately victimized by a Jose Ramirez homer in the 1st, though that was all he’d give up. 3-1.

After Curry bounced back nicely by only allowing yet another Mookie single in the 2nd, Kershaw hit a batter in his second inning and uncorked a wild pitch, but otherwise struck out the side. He looked setup for a dominant showing.

Past tense applies there because the tarp was immediately brought onto the field despite there being no rain for another half hour.

Gamesmanship? I dunno, but certainly it works out for them, and the delay ended up being permanent as they’ll pick things up tomorrow.

Ugh.

*Either still playing or will play later.

The series will conclude tomorrow, with Game 1 (this game) starting at 6:10 AM HT/9:10 AM PT/12:10 PM ET and then with Game 2 a half hour later, hopefully with somebody else doing the recap. It’ll be who knows to resume this game, against Ryan Pepiot sticking around in the rotation, and he’ll face rookie Gavin Williams.
