Dodgers 3, Giants 2: Chris Taylor starts a clutch double play and then walks it off for the series win

Despite the Giants desperately needing to win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Dodgers took the series three games to one following a walk-off extra-innings win by a 3-2 score.

That’s now three straight series wins in a row. They’re back, baby.

The Giants ran another pen game today, because of course they did. And it was the Dodgers that started the scoring in the 2nd behind a J.D. Martinez double and James Outman‘s 22nd homer of the year to make it 2-0.

Unfortunately, they largely settled in after that, allowing just a double and a pair of singles through the 8th inning.

Yeah, didn’t look great.

On the other side of things was Lance Lynn, who continued to look better, at least in terms of missing bats again. He allowed one baserunner in each of his first two innings and struck out a pair in both frames as well. In the 3rd, he faced a bases-loaded jam that all started with two outs, but he helped himself out with a running catch on a bunt attempt.

After a clean 4th that included a strikeout, a single and then a LaMonte Wade Jr. homer tied the game at 2-2.

Lynn ended up pitching into the 6th, making a solid case for a playoff role (not like they really have a choice): 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 6 K, 99 Pitches.

In the 7th, Alex Vesia took over and got a couple outs, though he did allow a single. That left Ryan Brasier to enter, and he easily got the final out of the frame to continue his stellar run.

Brusdar Graterol cruised through a seven-pitch frame in the 8th, but Evan Phillips started the 9th by hitting a batter and then allowing a single. Following a sac bunt, two were in scoring position, but a shallow fly left them in place. After an intentional walk to load things up, Phillips notched a strikeout and actually showed emotion.

That gave the bats a chance to walk it off after a quiet six innings, but they made it seven after drawing just a walk in the 9th.

Bonus baseball!

Shelby Miller kicked the 10th off with a strikeout, but after an intentional walk, a routine fly to center was lost in the sky by Enrique Hernandez for a “single”. That loaded the bases with one out, which only setup an amazing double play deflected off Shelby to Chris Taylor and completed with a dig from Freddie Freeman.

In their first crack at extras, pinch-hitter Kolten Wong grounded out, which let pinch-runner Amed Rosario advance to third. That brought up today’s hero in CT3, who walked it off with a “single” into the gap in right-center field.

Dramatic shit.
