Dodgers 9, Pirates 2: A 14-hit attack led by 4 from Andy Pages wins the series, but Tyler Glasnow exits with injury

The Dodgers really could’ve used a solid start to the homestand, and they got a tough start against Paul Skenes, but after that they’ve continued to hit to take the next two games. This one was a 9-2 victory over the Pirates behind a season-high 14 hits, four of which came from the red-hot Andy Pages.

After cramping up last time out, the Dodgers were convinced Tyler Glasnow wouldn’t have the same problem today. They were technically correct, though not in the way they wanted.

Regardless, the game didn’t start well for him, as Andrew McCutchen and Enmanuel Valdez hit solo homers to put the Pirates up 2-0.

That wasn’t what was important, as before the 2nd inning began, he had to leave with a shoulder injury after not looking right during warmups.

Brutal.

Well, at least the offense continued to back the pitching staff.

Bailey Falter got a rude welcome, as Shohei Ohtani walked, Mookie Betts singled, and both runners advanced on a groundout. Freddie Freeman followed with a single to plate them both and tie the game, but the rally didn’t end there. A Tommy Edman grounder got past Ke’Bryan Hayes at third and Freddie scored all the way from first, with Edman advancing to third himself on another Hayes error. Pages completed the four-run rally with a single to make it 4-2 Dodgers.

They added on in the 2nd, as Enrique Hernandez walked and Shohei put two in scoring position with a double, and they got a run on a Mookie sacrifice fly to make it 5-2.

While Falter worked around a pair of two-out singles in the 3rd and got a clean 4th, the 5th started with Teoscar Hernandez‘s eighth homer of the year and 200th for his career to push the lead to 6-2.

After an Edman single followed, Falter got the last out before giving way to the Pirates pen, who immediately surrendered Pages’ fifth dinger of the year to make it 8-2.

They tried to rally again in the 5th with a two-out single and walk, but nothing came of it, though the 6th found that man again. A one-out single from Chris Taylor was followed by a two-out walk from Edman, and Pages came up with his fourth hit of the day to push the lead to 9-2.

As all this was going on, the pen stepped up in a big way yet again.

Ben Casparius took over in the 2nd, getting six straight outs to start before allowing a single, but then getting the next three batters of the 4th. After getting the first two batters of the 5th, he gave up a single and that was the end of his outstanding appearance.

Alex Vesia entered and ended the 5th with a strikeout. He started the 6th and got another strikeout, but then allowed a single and exited for Luis Garcia, who got the next two to complete the frame.

That setup new addition Yoendrys Gomez for a very valuable three-out save. He worked around two singles in the 7th, one single in the 8th, and one more single in the 9th.
