The Dodgers finished off both the series and the homestand today, and it looked bleak early as they seemed to be on the wrong end of a pitchers’ duel between Dustin May and Corbin Burnes. However, who else but Teoscar Hernandez came up with the big blow to power the Dodgers to a 3-1 victory that helped them secure a series win over the Diamondbacks and salvage a 4-5 homestand.

While Dustin May didn’t start the game ideally via issuing a lead-off walk, he immediate erased that with a double play. A one-out single in the 2nd was neutralized when he struck out the side, and he got a clean 3rd as the sweeper was working.

The 4th started off with a bang for the D-backs, however, as Ketel Marte clubbed a homer to put them up 1-0.

May later gave up a two-out single but no runs, and the same went for a one-out hit batter in the 5th. After a notable strikeout to start the 6th, he then allowed back-to-back singles to corner the runners with one out. However, he bared down and got a foul out and groundout to escape potentially things getting out of hand.

The turbo-sinker was darting and the sweeper was sweeping with depth: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K, 88 Pitches.

If you’re wondering about what was happening on the other side against Corbin Burnes, well it wasn’t much for a long time. He had a perfect game broken up by a Freddie Freeman single with two outs in the 4th, but nothing came of that, and neither did anything come of a one-out walk in the 5th.
But perhaps building on the momentum of May’s Houdini act in the top of the inning, the Dodgers rallied in the 6th. Of all people, Miguel Rojas singled for the first two-strike hit Burnes gave up this month, and Ohtani followed by skying a flyball to the track in right for a dramatic out. That was disappointing at the time, but was maybe a harbinger of things to come.
Mookie Betts followed with a single to left that looked more like a GIDP ball to put a pair on, and after a strikeout for the second out, Burnes surrendered his second two-strike hit of the month to Teoscar on his first hit back from the IL, which was a three-run go-ahead homer (10th) to make it 3-1 in a flash.

Of course, the Dodgers pen has been a problem, and they ran into immediate trouble in the 7th. Jack Dreyer began by giving up a single, but did rebound with a pair of outs before giving up another single to corner the runners.
Dave Roberts then turned to new Dodger Lou Trivino, who promptly came in a threw strikes to get the final out of the frame against Dodger destroyer Marte. He then continued in the 8th, getting a 1-2-3 frame without any fuss.
With the Dodger offense not doing anything in Burnes’ final inning in the 7th, and then managing just a single in the 8th against the pen. It was a two-run lead for Tanner Scott, who was back on the horse after blowing the game twice yesterday and throwing 28 pitches.
Thankfully he was much better today, getting a 1-2-3 frame (albeit with a rocket lineout to left) on 14 pitches to end it.
