Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 209 – Darvish, Turner, Bellinger, Hill, Joc

On this episode of Dugout Blues, Jared and I bring you the brightest and tightest podcast we’ve ever recorded. Well, not really.

The Dodgers lost two games this past week. I know it’s hard to believe, but the Dodgers aren’t going to win every game for the remainder of the season.

The Diamondbacks’ series was one lucky grand slam from being a sweep and the Padres’ was three somewhat unlikely homers from being a sweep. Still, the Dodgers are 83-34, which, lol.

Yu Darvish had a solid second game. His fastball command was non-existent, but he still struck out 10 hitters in five innings. He good.

The bullpen has been a little bumpy of late, but this is the time to experiment ahead of the postseason. There are many spots open for the postseason roster, and performance over the next six weeks will be key.

Justin Turner is good again. He had a bit of a 10-day slump before busting out in a big way this past week. He capped it off with a 2-home run game on Sunday that fueled the Dodger victory.

Cody Bellinger is still hitting, and he’s maturing as a hitter. He’s an exciting player.

Rich Hill took a pitch off the throat and still completed six innings of work. Glad there was nothing seriously wrong, but he’s an animal.

Joc Pederson is struggling … quite a bit. He might lose some playing time when Adrian Gonzalez comes back if he doesn’t start hitting. He needs to stop tinkering.

On the farm, Walker Buehler is almost assuredly getting a promotion to the majors next month. He struck out five of the six hitters he faced in his most recent relief outing. Edwin Rios is still hitting and might be a legit prospect now. Yusniel Diaz is also hitting, this time in Double-A. The power is still lacking, but it’s also usually the last thing to develop. Ronny Brito broke his leg on a dirty slide by an opposing player while trying to turn a double play. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

We end with a solid Q&A session (for a Monday morning). Please keep them coming.
